Our jobs may be tough, but Filipinos are tougher.

Regardless of whether you’re a messenger or manager; a Makati girl or a palengke boy; a driver or an accounts driver–we believe that no job is too easy… that any line of work involves pain and sacrifice. And there is no shame in pain for it actually reflects the effort and commitment you exert to do your job well. As the saying goes, No Pain No Gain.

That is why each of us should wear our pain, our every "aray", as a badge of honor for a job well done. And it is with this sentiment that we honor the Filipino men and women who face the challenges of their day-to-day jobs with pride, resiliency and most of all toughness. Through Alaxan FR’s "Search for the Toughest Jobs in the Philippines," we honor the ordinary Filipino working man–dahil para sa Pilipino, Tough Job, Good Job!

Aches Vs. Pains

Bryan Flanagan is one of the top trainers for The Ziglar Corporation and he has something beautiful to say. Our company Inspire Inc. has been licensed to do their sales and presentation programs and Flanagan gets us thinking so I would like you to listen to this. Flanagan says:
How much money do you make on the sales you almost close? I mean, when you get real close? When the prospect is about to sign the agreement, or about to say “yes,” how much do you make when the sale is that close? That’s right... you make the same amount of money as I do on the sales I almost close: zero, nada, zip!

So, do you ever wonder why you don’t win more of the “close ones”? The answer may be the difference between “ache” and “pain.” Most prospects don’t take action until they are in enough “pain” to change their current situation. They may have some discomfort, they may have some pain. But they are not hurting enough to discontinue using the incumbent competitor and switching to your company. Perhaps this story will illustrate the point.
Two West Texas farmers were talking one afternoon. The visiting rancher noticed his friend’s dog lying on the porch. The dog was moaning. He asked, “Why is your dog moaning?” The answer, “Well, he’s lying on a nail. But he’s not in enough pain to move!”
Until your prospect is in “enough pain to move” — to take action — then the prospect will not change — will not agree to buy your product or service.
Your challenge as a sales professional is to uncover the prospect’s pain. In order to achieve this, you must assist the prospect in becoming aware of the existing needs, the existing “pain.” This is achieved by asking appropriate questions. Here are a few examples:
  • “Mr. Prospect, how satisfied are you with your current situation? Are you dissatisfied enough to take action today?”
  • “Mr. Prospect, if you could change your current situation, what would be the benefit to you?”
  • “Mr. Prospect, if you could receive greater coverage at lower costs, how would that impact your budget?”
  • These questions are intended to move the prospect from being in an “ache position” to a “pain position.” Once the prospect is in pain, your chances of winning the business are increased...
  • Now go sell somebody something!
And as I think about this another life principle pops up in my mind.
Most people are living with bad habits and they are aching but they are not yet in pain enough to decide to stop what they are doing.
Procrastination. Bad temper. A sharp tongue. Toxic vocabulary. Bad attitude. Tardiness. Pride. Excess baggage they lug around with them all day long and they’re aching, but not yet in pain so they move about just the same.
One small lapse of judgment every day. One bad thought. One bad word. One tiny little slander. One small piece of juicy gossip. One malicious innuendo. Collect all these small stuff every day and in 6 years you will no longer have an ache, you will have a disaster that leads to pain.
Wise people wake up in the morning and pray. Seek God’s Presence and say, “Search me for hidden sins and change me for the better.”
This is what makes champions win.
So are we in pain enough to remove our aches?
We just have to be honest.

Oops! and Mistakes!

One day an extremely upset newspaper subscriber stormed into a newspaper office waving the current edition, asking to see "whoever wrote the obituary column".
When referred to a young reporter, he stormed, "You can see I'm very much alive, and you've put me in the obituary column! I demand a retraction!"
Replied the reporter, "I never retract a story but I tell you what I'll do. I'll put you in the birth column and give you a fresh start."
I certainly have.
Some people will never admit their mistakes and worst, some people will never want to correct their mistakes the proper way.
Have you ever committed mistakes in your life?

You’re probably thinking, “What a stupid question, of course I have.”
Well now that you have admitted you’re committing mistakes from time to time, how do you deal with your mistakes?
Mistakes that offend others, you have to be big and courageous enough to admit your mistake and make amends. But mistakes that you have done to yourself… think through them and learn from them. Mistakes are experiences in life that teach us lessons and make us wiser over time but the key thing here is that we have to learn from them.
When people say, “Experience is the best teacher….” I smile because I know this is not true. Only evaluated experience is the best teacher. As a people, we keep on making the same mistakes year in and year out because we have never taken the time to evaluate the experience, learn from it and resolve to correct it.
Smart people learn from their mistakes. But here is another thing to consider.
Smarter people learn from the mistakes of others.
Somebody says mistakes are mistakes but it’s a question of perspectives and it depends on how you really look at it.
Consider the following:
  • If a barber makes a mistake, it’s a new style...
  • If a driver makes a mistake, it is an accident...
  • If an engineer makes a mistake, It is a new venture...
  • If parents make a mistake, it is a new generation...
  • If a politician makes a mistake, it is a new law...
  • If a scientist makes a mistake, it is a new invention...
  • If a tailor makes a mistake, it is a new fashion...
  • If a teacher makes a mistake, it is a new theory...
  • If our boss makes a mistake, it is our mistake......
  • If an employee makes a mistake, It is a "MISTAKE"
I have committed a lot of mistakes in my life and some of them not very smart but most of them offered lessons I have learned from and has helped me a lot in my life and career today.
Some people cuss and some people curse when they make a mistakes but most people say: “oops!”
I do. But there are people I am sure you would not want to hear say “oops! From:”
1. Your surgeon.
2. Your dentist.
3. Your nurse.
4. Your hairdresser.
5. Your mechanic.
6. Your tax accountant.
7. The computer tech person.
8. The house painter, plumber or electrician.
9. The pilot.
You know you are growing and you know you are learning if you are making new mistakes. The key word here is “NEW.” But if you are committing the same kind of mistakes then YOU ARE THE MISTAKE!
Learn from the mistakes of others – you can never live long enough to make them all yourself.
CICERO, the Roman statesman and philosopher, wrote the following some 2,000 years ago: THE SIX FATAL MISTAKES OF MAN:
  1. The delusion that personal gain is made by crushing others;
  2. The tendency to worry about things that cannot be changed or corrected;
  3. Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it;
  4. Refusing to set aside trivial preferences;
  5. Neglecting development and refinement of the mind, and not acquiring the habit reading and studying;
  6. Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do.
Welcome mistakes. They are our friends but they should also be our teachers.
Accept them and do not defend them.
Elbert Hubbard says it best: "The greatest mistake a man can make is to be afraid to make one."

I Hate My Job

You hate your job. You’re thinking of quitting.

You are not happy and you find that you have to drag yourself out of bed every morning so you can go to work. If this is your situation then today’s message is for you.

Having a job you hate is never easy but sometimes you just need to grin and bear it until you have another gig lined up. Here are some productive things you may want to do:

1. START THE DAY WITH SOMETHING POSITIVE

Your daily morning ritual is extremely important. Start with being positive by doing something positive. Go to bed early and wake up early so you will have time to start the day with quiet meditation. A word of prayer. You may want to set your alarm to play upbeat or classical music, have a wonderful sip of coffee and read a section of an inspirational book and when you improve your mornings, you will be surprised at how this can do wonders for the rest of your day. Going into a job you hate will be worse if you get to the office feeling rushed, stressed and frazzled. Set aside some moments of solitude each morning.

2. KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE PRIZE

It is not true that everything about your job stinks. You are not working in the sewage are you? Do not exaggerate. There will always be something out there in your work life that will make you happy. So make weekly goals to help you achieve those goals.

But be careful with your daily goals too. Do one thing each day to help you reach your goals. Do not be too obsessed with crossing all your items off your “To-do-list” every day because this will frustrate you.

Sometimes it is easier to make it to 5 o’clock when you can keep your eye on the prize.

When you get up in the morning, set a daily objective for yourself and make sure you achieve it. This will give you a sense of accomplishment and keep you feeling good about your progress.

3. DEVELOP YOUR SKILLS.

You may not love your job for the moment but do not rot. Use your time to learn new skills. This way you are putting in you more value and worth and preparing yourself to be a better candidate down the road. Attend your company training courses, learn something new on your computer. Read books. Listen to tapes during lunch. Turn this job that you hate into an opportunity for personal growth and improvement.

4. EXERCISE.

Your problems and challenges become bigger than life when you are weak and unhealthy. So go to the gym. Run. Take a nice long walk. Put these activities in your schedule so that will have something to look forward to every day.

5. CELEBRATE

Fine little ways of treating yourself. Celebrate your victories. You beat the deadline. Your boss compliments you. Find out what makes you feel better inside, no matter what is going on outside. Plan out your next vacation. Join a small group. I know so many young people who are involved with Bible study groups and they really look forward to their weekly meetings. I guess here they all meet together and pray that God be merciful with their bosses. (joke….don’t take me seriously here…..)

6. IMPROVE YOUR PERFORMANCE

It doesn’t matter whether you like your job or you hate it. You must make it your goal to go to the next level and excel in what you do. Never for a moment think that just because you are employed you are working for somebody else. Your current accomplishments will be your equipment in future opportunities.

7. ALWAYS BE POSITIVE

Do not let your unhappiness in your job destroy your relationship with people. Maintain your contacts and keep your relationships positive. And this included the boss you love to hate. Realize that this too shall pass. Keep your chin up and be a professional.

If you are faithful in the small things then big things are bound to come.

Helen Keller says: “Keep your face in the sunshine and you can never see the shadow.”

Believe me, there is sunshine even in your cubicle.

Anger Can Be Contagious

In his autobiography, Number 1, Billy Martin told about hunting in Texas with Mickey Mantle.

Mickey had a friend who would let them hunt on his ranch. When they reached the ranch, Mickey told Billy to wait in the car while he checked in with his friend. Mantle's friend quickly gave them permission to hunt, but he asked Mickey a favor. He had a pet mule in the barn who was going blind, and he didn't have the heart to put him out of his misery. He asked Mickey to shoot the mule for him.

When Mickey came back to the car, he pretended to be angry. He scowled and slammed the door. Billy asked him what was wrong, and Mickey said his friend wouldn't let them hunt. "I'm so mad at that guy," Mantle said, "I'm going out to his barn and shoot one of his mules!" Mantle drove like a maniac to the barn. Martin protested, "We can't do that!" But Mickey was adamant. "Just watch me," he shouted.

When they got to the barn, Mantle jumped out of the car with his rifle, ran inside, and shot the mule. As he was leaving, though, he heard two shots, and he ran back to the car. He saw that Martin had taken out his rifle, too. "What are you doing, Martin?" he yelled. Martin yelled back, face red with anger, "We'll show that son of a gun! I just killed two of his cows!"

Oh no! Anger can be dangerously contagious.

As Proverbs 22:24-25 puts it, "Do not make friends with a hot-tempered man... or you may learn his ways" (Prov.). [1]

Let me tell you another story. This time it’s a confession from a man who understands the destructive power of anger.

This wise person says:

I went to the store the other day, and I was in there for only about 5 minutes.

When I came out there was a motorcycle cop writing a parking ticket.

So I went up to him and said, "Come on, buddy, how about giving a guy a break?"

He ignored me and continued writing the ticket.

So I called him a pencil-necked Nazi.

He glared at me and started writing another ticket for worn tires!

So I called him a piece of horse manure.

He finished the second ticket and put it on the windshield with the first. Then he started writing a third ticket!

This went on for about 20 minutes... the more I abused him, the more tickets he wrote.

I didn't care. My car was parked around the corner.

I try to have a little fun each day. It's important.

That’s how destructive anger could be.

RABBI BERNARD S. RASKAS says: “Often we are caught in the snare of the old adage that we must fight fire with fire. We retaliate against hate with hate, and we answer anger with auger. All we really succeed in doing is magnifying the problem, for by increasing a fire all we simply do is intensify the heat.

The true way to extinguish a fire is with cool water. Likewise, the effective way to quench a quarrel is with cooling and soothing words. Most arguments are rooted in irrational hate; before reason can be applied to relationships, hate must be dispelled. This can only be done when the voice is soft, the temper is low, and the regard for others is gentle. The real antidote to anger is, obviously, pleasantness. [2]

When we give others a "piece of our mind," we have no "peace of mind" left.

Better to consider peace and patience rather than risk being a patient one day.

Always remember. Anger is only one letter away from danger.

Getting Started With Jim Rohn

Jim Rohn is the quintessential business philosopher. He tells it to you straight with honest, informative, and useful ideas. A good way to get started with Jim Rohn is to read some of his quotes or articles, but the best way is to listen to him speak. Jim has a wide variety of audio programs to choose from, and the audio program that I recommend to get started is The Art of Exceptional Living.

There are two versions of this audio program—the abridged version or the complete program that you can buy through his company. Jim has been described as the “Socrates of the Modern era,” and The Art of Exceptional Living will give you an understanding of this description.

In the program, Jim covers four major lessons you must master to become successful and how to overcome self-imposed restrictions. He goes through a detailed step-by-step goal-setting workshop that will enable you to design exactly what you want the next ten years to bring. Jim also describes the five abilities for true success and how the cultivation of lifestyle molds your life into a successful masterpiece.

Here are the subjects that Jim Rohn covers:

• The Fundamentals of Exceptional Living.

• Developing a Powerful Personal Philosophy.

• Filling Your Reservoir of Knowledge.

• The Miracle of Personal Development.

• The Five Abilities for True Success.

• Achieving Financial Independence.

• The Principal of Association.

• The Art of Setting Goals.

• Designing the Next 10 Years.

• The Cultivation of Lifestyle.

• The Day That Turns Your Life Around.

In The Art of Exceptional Living, Jim relates his 39-plus years of experience and personal investigation into success. If you follow his advice, you’ll be on your way to a happier, more prosperous life.

Balancing Your Past and Future By Josh Hinds

Being forward thinking, and on focus with regards to the goals you have set for yourself, and the direction you want your life to move in is important — no doubt about it.

However, it’s also important to give ample time to the successes you’ve experienced along the way. And we’re not just talking about the monumental wins either. Even the smallest of right actions all add up. They all count, and are important!

The reason taking the time to recount your past achievements is so important is because in doing so you’ll find it to be a terrific motivator for helping to move you forward on your goals.

When you feel good about the place and path you’re on, and the progress you’re making (and have made in the past) you will find it to be that much easier to stay the course and dedicate the necessary time to accomplishing what needs to be done to get you to the eventual outcome you’ve planned for.

Recounting your past achievements will become a welcome
reminder and source of validation that you’re making things
happen in your life!

Your Customers Are Your Most Valuable Asset By Josh Hinds

It’s been said that on average a happy customer or client will share their experience with three other people, while a negative experience will be retold upwards of 6 to 7 times.

I readily admit I don’t have the scientific numbers to prove whether the above claim is true or not, but I can tell you that if there’s even the slightest smidgen of truth in it I don’t want to find out for sure! Do you? No, of course you don’t.

Maybe it’s because I speak and coach clients on how to build strong relationships with their customers, and as a result make more sales & greater profits in their businesses, but as you might expect I hear more than my fair share of customer service stories (The good, the bad, and at times the downright ugly).

The following story illustrates not only how important it is to take seriously the way we treat our past customers, but it also shows just how easy it is to blow what could otherwise be a lasting win, win situation for everyone involved.

A friend shared the following story with me.

About 3 months ago my friend went into a local car dealership in our local area and purchased a car, he was absolutely delighted with every aspect of the purchase.

The salesperson was perfect, the car was to his liking, all it seemed was wonderful. Except for one tiny detail, which as you will see shouldn’t have ever been allowed to develop into a problem in the first place — but I’m jumping ahead of the story.

It turns out during the car transaction the salesperson mentioned that my buddy would get his first oil change at no charge. All he would need to do is to call her (the salesperson) when the first oil change was due.

Three months passed, and all the while my friend had been happily sharing the positive experience he had from buying the car.

Then the customer no-service nightmare begins (and I might add, whatever positive relationship had been in place up to that point went kaput!). My friend called the salesperson, he said he reminded her that he had bought a vehicle from her a few months back and just as she’d asked him to do he was calling to get the initial oil change scheduled. The one that was promised as a reward for buying the car from the dealership.

First challenge… not only does she not remember his name, she doesn’t even act as though she has any clue who he is.

Second challenge… rather than offering to take care of scheduling the oil change herself — she says, “I doesn’t really handle that, but here’s the number of the service department person to ask for, he can take care of you”.

My friend is surprised, but isn’t really bothered by it at this point. He calls the service department and a young lady answers. He explains the situation, and she says that the person whose name he was given was at lunch, and that she “doesn’t know anything about that” — that being a free first oil change when you purchase a car from the dealership.

Instead of offering to take his name she informs him that she would be happy to schedule something if he would like. Unfortunately the “something” wasn’t the as promised free first time oil change.

At this point my friend explains to her that he’s not interested in having their company handle any service work for him. While nice, he also explains that because of the lack of service — from the sales department to their service center he will not only not take advantage of their service department, he will also never purchase another vehicle from the dealership.

His reasoning was solid in my opinion, he said, “Josh, if I can’t count on this company to fulfill a simple oil change, how can I count on them to stand behind a vehicle which costs say, $30,000.00 to $60,000.00. Like I said, his reasoning was sound.

Unfortunately, for the dealership, that was just the beginning of their misfortune — literally in the form of missed referrals and the numerous retellings of this customer no-service story that my friend received.

While he’s not a vindictive person at all, he has told well over 8 to 9 people I know of (myself included) about this unbelievable experience. Think about that for a moment. Consider how many people will now give serious pause to doing business with this company. Even assuming that not one of those people recounted the story (which you know I have just shared it with many people here in this writing, not to mention how many people will hear it when I am speaking from the stage or coaching one of my clients on the right way to build winning customer relationships).

There are many lessons we can gain from the story above, not the least of which is this…

If you make a promise, do your dead level best to live up to it. That’s not to say that you aren’t going to fall short at times, try as we might, we all have our moments where we fall short. Still, if you want to stand out above those in the marketplace when you fall short, do your best to rectify the situation. Be honest about it, admit you fell short and if possible do your best to make up for it.

You don’t have to be perfect, and chances are, you can’t be 100% of the time no matter how hard you try, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a target worth aiming for. Aim for it, and you will find that far more often than not you will be way ahead of the game professionally and personally.

People not only want to be able to believe in and trust those they do business with — they will actively seek out those they can feel that way about. Strive to be that person and you will attract more than your share of opportunity — and make a whole lot more sales in the process!

Give Your Best To The Task At Hand By Josh Hinds

Starting today commit to giving your absolute best to every task which comes your way. Rather than seeing things as a burden or menial tasks remind yourself that each is preparing you for the eventual larger opportunities which lay in store for you.

To paraphrase business philosopher, author, and lecturer Jim Rohn, you can’t just start at the top, it’s as though life is making sure you can handle the smaller tasks that are required of you, before you’re given the responsibility of having to deal with the bigger ones.

Prove you can work through the smaller things that are asked of you and before you know it, you’ll attract greater opportunity, along with the greater life rewards that come with being able to work through them.

The Most Important Part of
THINK AND GROW RICH:
(Excerpt from Think and Grow Rich,
Turning Desire Into Riches, Chapter 2, pages 35-36):

The Method by which DESIRE for riches can be transmuted into its financial equivalent, consists of six definite, practical steps:

1. Fix in your mind the exact amount of money you desire. It is not sufficient merely to say, “I want plenty of money.” Be definite as to the amount. (There is a psychological reason for definiteness which will be described in a subsequent chapter).

[A Note From Pennimation Publishing: For a Way To Start Making Money Now, Click Here. This Stock Trading Product is Amazing! Or, if you would like to learn online marketing, then I recommend this complete system .]

2. Determine exactly what you intend to give in return for the money you desire. (There is no such reality as “something for nothing.”)

3. Establish a definite plan date when you intend to possess the money you desire.

4. Create a definite plan for carrying out your desire, and begin at once, whether you are ready or not, to put this plan into action.

5. Write out a clear, concise statement of the amount of money you intend to acquire, name the time limit for its acquisition, state what you intend to give in return for the money, and describe clearly the plan through which you intend to accumulate it.

6. Read your written statement aloud, twice daily, once just before retiring at night, and once after arising in the morning. AS YOU READ--—SEE AND FEEL AND BELIEVE YOURSELF ALREADY IN POSSESSION OF THE MONEY.

It is important that you follow the instructions described in these six steps. It is especially important that you observe, and follow the instructions in the sixth paragraph. You may complain that it is impossible for you to “see yourself in possession of money” before you actually have it. Here is where a BURNING DESIRE will come to your aid. If you truly DESIRE money so keenly that your desire is an obsession, you will have no difficulty in convincing yourself that you will acquire it. The object is to want money, and to become so determined to have it that you CONVINCE yourself you will have it.

Three Key Words to Remember: Weigh, Count and Measure

Three key words to remember: weigh, count and measure. Now why weigh, count and measure? To see what your results are from your activity, your attitude and your philosophy. If you find that the results are not to your liking there are only three places to look.

Your philosophy needs to be fine-tuned; your attitude needs to be strengthened or your disciplines need extra skill. But that's it. Activity, attitude and philosophy create results.

Now on results I teach that life expects you to make measurable progress in reasonable time. But, you must be reasonable with time. You can't say to someone every five minutes, how are you doing now? That's too soon to ask for a count. Guy says, "I haven't left the building yet, give me a break!" Now you can't wait five years - that's too long. Too many things can go wrong waiting too long for a count to see how you're doing.

Here are some good time frames:

Number one - at the end of the day. You can't let more than a day go by without looking at some things and making progress. New Testament says - if you are angry, try to solve it before the sun goes down. Don't carry anger for another day. It may be too heavy to carry. If you try to carry it for a week, it may drop you to your knees. So some things you must get done in a day.

Here's the next one - a week. We ask for an accounting of the week so we can issue the pay. And whatever you've got coming that's what you get; when the week is over. Now in business there are two things to check in the course of the week. Your activity count and your productivity count. Because activity leads to productivity we need to count both to see how we're doing.

My mentor taught me that success is a numbers game and very early he started asking me my numbers. He asked, "How many books have you read in the last ninety days?" I said, "Zero"; he said, "Not a good number." He said, "How many classes have you attended in the last six months to improve your skills?" And I said, "Zero." He said, "Not a good number." Then he said, "In the last six years that you've been working, how much money have you saved and invested?" I said, "Zero" and he said, "Not a good number." Then here's what he said, "Mr. Rohn, if these numbers don't change your life won't change. But" he said, "If you'll start improving these numbers then perhaps you'll start to see everything change for you."

Success and results are a numbers game. John joins this little sales company. He's supposed to make 10 calls the first week just to get acquainted with the territory. So on Friday we call him in and say what? "How many calls?" He says, "Well." You say, "John, 'well' won't fit in the little box here. I need a number." Now he starts with a story. And you say, "John, the reason I made this little box so small is so a story won't fit. All I need is a number because if you give us the number we're so brilliant around here we could guess the story." It's the numbers that count. Making measurable progress in reasonable time.

Here's the best accounting. The accounting you make of yourself. Don't wait for the government to do it, don't wait for the company to do it. But you've got to add up some of your own numbers and ask, "Am I making the progress I want and will it take me where I want to go now and in the future?" You be the judge!

Change Begins with Choice

Any day we wish; we can discipline ourselves to change it all. Any day we wish; we can open the book that will open our mind to new knowledge.

Any day we wish; we can start a new activity. Any day we wish; we can start the process of life change. We can do it immediately, or next week, or next month, or next year.

We can also do nothing. We can pretend rather than perform. And if the idea of having to change ourselves makes us uncomfortable, we can remain as we are. We can choose rest over labor, entertainment over education, delusion over truth, and doubt over confidence. The choices are ours to make. But while we curse the effect, we continue to nourish the cause.

As Shakespeare uniquely observed, "The fault is not in the stars, but in ourselves." We created our circumstances by our past choices. We have both the ability and the responsibility to make better choices beginning today.

Those who are in search of the good life do not need more answers or more time to think things over to reach better conclusions. They need the truth. They need the whole truth. And they need nothing but the truth.

We cannot allow our errors in judgment, repeated every day, to lead us down the wrong path. We must keep coming back to those basics that make the biggest difference in how our life works out. And then we must make the very choices that will bring life, happiness and joy into our daily lives.

And if I may be so bold to offer my last piece of advice for someone seeking and needing to make changes in their life - If you don't like how things are, change it! You're not a tree.

You have the ability to totally transform every area in your life - and it all begins with your very own power of choice.

Success is Easy, But so is Neglect

I found it easy to set the goals that could change my life. They found it easy not to. I found it easy to read the books that could affect my thinking and my ideas. They found that easy not to. I found it easy to attend the classes and the seminars, and to get around other successful people. They said it probably really wouldn't matter.

If I had to sum it up, I would say what I found to be easy to do, they found to be easy not to do. Six years later, I'm a millionaire and they are all still blaming the economy, the government and company policies, yet they neglected to do the basic, easy things.

In fact, the primary reason most people are not doing as well as they could and should, can be summed up in a single word: neglect.

It is not the lack of money - banks are full of money. It is not the lack of opportunity - America, and much of the free World, continues to offer the most unprecedented and abundant opportunities in the last six thousand years of recorded history.

It is not the lack of books – libraries are full of books - and they are free! It is not the schools - the classrooms are full of good teachers. We have plenty of ministers, leaders, counselors and advisors.

Everything we would ever need to become rich and powerful and sophisticated is within our reach. The major reason that so few take advantage of all that we have is simply, neglect.

Neglect is like an infection. Left unchecked it will spread throughout our entire system of disciplines and eventually lead to a complete breakdown of a potentially joy-filled and prosperous human life.

Not doing the things we know we should do causes us to feel guilty and guilt leads to an erosion of self-confidence. As our self-confidence diminishes, so does the level of our activity. And as our activity diminishes, our results inevitably decline. And as our results suffer, our attitude begins to weaken. And as our attitude begins the slow shift from positive to negative, our self-confidence diminishes even more ... and on and on it goes.

So my suggestion is that when giving the choice of "easy to" and "easy not to" that you do not neglect to do the simple, basic, "easy"; but potentially life-changing activities and disciplines.

The Major Key to Your Better Future is You

Of all the things that can have an effect on your future, I believe personal growth is the greatest. We can talk about sales growth, profit growth, asset growth, but all of this probably will not happen without personal growth.

It’s really the open door to it all. In fact I’d like to have you memorize a most important phrase. Here it is, “The major key to your better future is YOU.”

Let me repeat that. “The major key to your better future is YOU.” Put that someplace you can see it everyday, in the bathroom, in the kitchen, at the office, anywhere where you can see it everyday. The major key to your better future is YOU. Try to remember that every day you live and think about it. The major key is YOU.

Now, there are many things that will help your better future. If you belong to a strong, dynamic and progressive company, that would help. If the company has good products, good services that you are proud of, that would certainly help. If there were good sales aids, that would help, good training would certainly help.

If there is strong leadership that will certainly help. All of these things will help, and of course, if it doesn’t storm, that will help. If your car doesn’t break down, that will help. If the kids don’t get sick, that will help. If the neighbors stay half way civil, that will help. If your relatives don’t bug you, that will help.

If it isn’t too cold, if it isn’t too hot, all those things will help your better future. And if prices don’t go much higher and if taxes don’t get much heavier, that will help. And if the economy stays stable, those things will all help. We could go on and on with the list; but remember this, the list of things that I’ve just covered and many more - all put together - play a minor role in your better future.

The major key to your better future is you. Lock your mind onto that. This is a super important point to remember. The major key is you. Mr. Shoaff always answered when asked, “How do you develop an above average income?” by saying “Simple, become an above average person. Work on you.” Mr. Shoaff would say, “Develop an above average handshake.”

He would say, “A lot of people want to be successful, and they don’t even work on their handshake. As easy as that would be to start, they let it slide. They don’t understand.” Mr. Shoaff would say, “Develop an above average smile.

Develop an above average excitement. Develop an above average dedication. Develop an above average interest in other people.” He would say, “To have more, become more.” Remember; work harder on yourself than you do on your job. For a long time in my life, I didn’t have this figured out.

Strangely enough, with two different people in the same company one may earn an extra $100 a month, and the other may earn a $1,000. What could possibly be the difference? If the products were the same, if the training was the same, if they both had the same literature, the same tools.

If they both had the same teacher, the same compensation plan, if they both attended the same meetings, why would one person earn the $100 per month and the other person earn the $1000? Remember here is the difference...the difference is personal, inside, not outside, inside.

You see the real difference is inside you. In fact, the difference IS you. Someone once said, “The magic is not in the products. The magic is not in the literature. The magic is not in the film. There isn’t a magic meeting, but the magic that makes things better is inside you, and personal growth makes this magic work for you.

The magic is in believing. The magic is in daring. The magic is in trying. The real magic is in persevering. The magic is in accepting. It’s in working. The magic is in thinking. There is magic in a handshake. There is magic in a smile. There is magic in excitement and determination.

There is real magic in compassion and caring and sharing. There is unusual magic in strong feeling and you see, all that comes from inside, not outside. So, the difference is inside you. The real difference is you. You are the major key to your better future.

Who has the toughest Job?

Profits are Better Than Wages

You know it is a bit difficult to get rich on wages, but anybody can get rich on profits. Profits change your whole attitude, even if you start part-time. Whether it's part-time on your entrepreneurial business, network marketing company or service business.

It can be a landscape business in the summer or hanging Christmas lights in the winter. It can be training, consulting or tutoring. It can be your hobby such as painting, writing, crafts, woodworking, computers or cooking. But once you start investing even part time effort into your own business, you will find how much more exciting it is to get up in the morning and go to work on your fortune, even if you're only spending a few hours a week doing it.

How empowering it is to be able to go to work on your fortune every day rather than going to work to pay the rent. Now - it is noble to go to work to pay the rent, but if you could also parcel out part of your time - go to work to make your fortune.

Your whole attitude changes; your spirit changes. It is in your voice. It is in your face. It is in your gestures. And then you can say, "I am now working full-time on my job and part-time on my fortune because I found a way to make profits." Wow!

Let the adventure begin…
